In some way, shape or form, probably every state uses solar power, whether it's used by the citizenry, business world or government. There are, however, some states that promote the spread of solar power more than others. California is by far the leader in solar power among U.S. states. The Golden State alone has one of the world's top solar markets.
Other leaders include Colorado, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Mexico and Oregon. There are many more. The states that typically use the most solar power in homes are those that have the strongest rebates and incentives and regulatory policies promoting it. Chief among these incentives are renewable portfolio standards (RPS). 28 states now have RPSs that demand a certain percentage of the state's electricity be wrought from renewable sources (often solar power) by a certain date.
