Five Solar Haiku
As much as I enjoy reading and writing poetry, I was nevertheless intimidated by the idea of composing a solar poem. That is until I met up with an old friend, Haiku. For one, exploring Haiku always gets my creative juices flowing. For two, Haiku seems suited to renewable energy due to its long history and natural inclinations.
I thoroughly enjoy the simplicity and wordplay involved in Haiku, and I am awed by the amount of power which somehow exudes from a few fragmented images. The forced rigidity inherent in the 5-7-5 syllabic confines of the Haiku reflects at once freedom and restraint; exemplifying the duality that so pervades Eastern philosophy and mysticism. And somehow, today and for me, it is also solar-powered. So for better or worse (gulp) here are a few of my best attempts at introducing solar power to Japan’s most famous poetic stanza.

and a light bulb sparks.

Beautifully put. One panel at a time we will save the world.
