Have a Solarbration with Sungevity
Here’s to a company that knows how to party – solar style. Sungevity plans to throw house parties for customers, celebrating their ability to buy into a better world through solar power installations. In addition to enjoying barbeque and a new taste of energy independence, entire neighborhoods will come together to learn more about the benefits and features of home solar systems. Sungevity staff will answer and encourage questions throughout the shindig.
It’s always nice to see companies like Sungevity that seek innovative ways to spread information about solar energy, which promises to be a critical component in solving today’s energy crisis. Gestures like this show the personal side of the industry, made up of individuals who care about the environment and the future, not just of big companies ready to profit on the next big job. True, the company’s found a great marketing technique, but I still think building community and spreading knowledge is a great way to grow a business!
Sungevity specializes in home solar electric systems, working with homeowners to provide the highest quality systems in the most cost effective manner.

Sungevity offers solar leases. Unfortunately a solar lease does a big diservice to the consumer. All you’re doing is renting your roof to these companies for pennies a day so that they can make a whole bunch of money. And I mean a ton of cash. When you purchase even a small system, it can net a homeowner well over a hundred thousand dollars in net income over its life expectancy, but when you lease, all of that cash goes to the leasing company. When you lease you don’t get the cash rebate, or the 30% tax credit or the REC credits nor will you get over 25 years worth of income that the system will generate. And the worst part is, after making all those lease payments, you won’t even own the system. You’re giving all of this away to the leasing company. These leasing companies will try to convince you that a solar system requires a whole bunch of maintenance and repairs which couldn’t be further from the truth. Today’s state of the art solar systems have proven to be one of the most maintenance free products on the planet, which is one of the biggest reasons that solar is so attractive to leasing company investors.. Unfortunately there are plenty of Solar Sheep out there that will sign a leasing contract and will lock up their roof for 10 to 20 years and give it all to the leasing company. A much better option is the new government sponsored PACE financing programs that are popping up all over the U.S. Unfortunately once you sign your roof away in a solar lease, you can no longer participate in a PACE financing program until the lease is up or you pay a stiff penalty. If you can’t afford to buy a solar system, why not take advantage of all the free energy efficiency improvement money that’s available. You can save just as much or more on your energy bills as a solar lease and you won’t be locked into a legally binding contract for 10 to 20 years that could make it more difficult to sell your home.
