1BOG Expands Solar Group-Buying to the East Coast

We’ve written plenty here at CalFinder Solar about One Block Off The Grid (1BOG). The solar advocacy group that helps residents of a given community band together to bulk-buy affordable solar power has made quite a name for itself on the West Coast. In a few short years, 1BOG has grown to become one of the most influential organizations of its kind. And now, 1BOG is expanding the neighborhood, bringing its message of communal home solar power to the east and New Jersey.

New Jersey is a ripe location for a group like 1BOG. You might say it is the California of the eastern seaboard and a national solar leader in many ways, including payback period. In the face of obvious demand, 1BOG’s move makes perfect sense. Last week, 1BOG announced that it was implementing its first group buying program.

Using bulk buying as a negotiating tool, 1BOG works with installers to get homeowners a discounted rate, in this case $5.45 per watt. The installer in question is the Solar Center, one of the East Coast’s leading designers and installers of residential solar power. If you live in New Jersey, you have until April 12 to sign up for the current program, although I’ve got a sneaking suspicion it won’t be the last.
