A Record-Breaking Week in Solar
| Posted on February 21st in Solar News by admin.
Most efficient, biggest producer, largest array – these are familiar terms within the solar industry as business continues to expand and improve. This week’s solar round-up details some of the most recent records, but stay aware, because new records seem to crop of every single day. We’re not complaining, because solar growth equates with higher renewable energy productivity, lower fossil fuel demand, and growing economical independence. Our certified solar installers are busier than ever, fielding demands from homeowners across the nation who are looking to go solar.
New Efficiency Record Set
This was set by the Sandia National Laboratories and Stirling Energy Systems (SES). According to Science Daily, the companies’ solar dish reached 31.25 percent efficiency, beating the 1984 solar-to-grid conversion record by nearly 2 percent. SES has potential plans to commercialize their system based on this new efficiency rate achieved with improved optics, mirror facets, newer component, and of course, lots of sunlight.
Biggest Solar Cell Producer Announced
According to Renewable Energy World, Q-Cells AG was the world’s largest producer of solar cells in 2007. The company’s annual production rate is at a high 370 MW. Closely following are Sharp Corp., Suntech Power, and Kyocera Corp.
Largest Florida-based Solar Array Opens
Florida Power and Light takes responsibility for opening Florida’s largest facility, one of the biggest in the southeastern U.S. with 1,200 PV panels. FPL is known for providing customer energy efficiency programs, serving 4.4 million customer accounts.
Highest Inverter Standards Set
PV Powered’s new commercial inverters are said to offer the widest operating range with the lowest standard MPPT voltage of any inverter of its kind. The new models even work with thin film modules.
Breaking Solar Manufacturing Ground
Pennsylvania will be new ground for AE Polysilicon’s headquarters. The manufacturing facility will consist of 32 acres, creating 145 new jobs, not including nearly a dozen more who will be hired to construct the new facility. The solar company is being credited for driving innovation, helping to meet demand for advanced energy sources, and providing employment opportunities in the state.
