Big News for Pennsylvania Homeowners
In July of this year, Pennsylvania Governor Edward Rendell signed into law the Alternative Energy Investment Fund (AEIF), which allocates over $650 million for renewable energy production. A good portion of this money will undoubtedly be available for solar energy systems. What is in doubt, however, is exactly how the money will be apportioned. Governor Rendell put the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) in charge of the fund. The DEP is still working out the details of the plan, leaving the state’s homeowners and businesses in a sort of purgatorial state.
Yet the impact of the legislation is undeniable. According to The Reinvestment Fund, which ran the state’s renewable grant program prior to this new law, at least $100 million in grants will be available for residential photovoltaic and solar water heat systems.
