PGA Golf Tourney Driving for the Green

Deutsche Bank and Alteris Renewables paired up to add some solar power to this year’s Deutsche Bank Championship, a PGA golf tournament held at TPC Boston over this past Labor Day weekend. Alteris Renewables is the solar and wind energy leader of the Northeast, with well over 2,000 completed installations during its 30 years in the solar energy business.

The Deutsche Bank Championship has the proud distinction of being the only carbon-neutral PGA Tour golf tournament. This year, a solar electric system directly contributed to that two year-old goal and sat right on the golf course, located between the 9th green and the 10th tee box. It produced enough energy to power the average American home.

The panels for the solar array were donated by Evergreen Solar, and Alteris Renewables donated the design and installation. Says Deutsche Bank Championship Director Eric Baldwin:

“We take great pride in being the first and only carbon-neutral event on the PGA TOUR. We’re excited to partner with Evergreen Solar and Alteris Renewables in order to not only offset our power consumption throughout Championship Week, but also demonstrate the benefits of solar power.”

The power produced by the solar array was fed directly back into the grid to offset a portion of the energy demands for the tournament.
