Sarah Palin to Re-Discover Alaskan Nature on TLC

sarah palin nature showShe never really wanted to be a vice president. She never wanted to write a book (on her own). And she certainly doesn’t want to run for president in 2012. That is, unless her new Discovery Channel reality nature series tanks, and let’s face it, Sarah Palin getting back to nature in Alaska on cable television? How could that fail?

This is no joke. According to TV By The Numbers, Discovery Communications — owner of the Discovery Channel, TLC and other cable networks — is but days away from announcing a deal with the, well, spoken former VP candidate and Republican Sarah Palin. After announcing previously that they’d passed on the deal, Discovery apparently decided to edge out rival A&E for the rights to air “Sarah Palin’s Alaska.”

The show will air on TLC in high definition and will be filmed along the same lines as the very popular “Planet Earth” series. Palin will reportedly be paid more than $1 million per episode for the show that Discovery was careful not to categorize as a reality show, although how anyone could take it seriously as a documentary nature series, at least initially, is beyond me. The former Alaskan governor attracts little else but drama, controversy and blooper reels — all the ingredients of a successful reality show.

Discovery maintains that it has no intention of making “Sarah Palin’s Alaska” (title subject to change) a political program. That’s why it makes so much sense that they’d choose the most politically charged (and admittedly the most famous at present) Alaskan to narrate the series.

Palin also has a paid contributor contract with Fox News Channel. It appears that if she’s looking ahead to further political forays, she plans on doing so by way of sensational journalistic television.

I just pray she doesn’t begin to think she’s an actress as well (although a stint on Fox News is good practice).
