Solid Lighting: The Solar Powered Brick

solar brickWherever you live, there is a good chance you turn on some sort of exterior lighting at night. Exterior lighting is found on almost every building in some form to light up the street or walkway or to deter intruders. If you’re like me, however, you tend to avoid turning on the porch lights to save electricity. The thought of leaving them on all night is enough cause to lose sleep! A clever alternative for traditional exterior lighting was recently developed to solve our dilemma: the solar powered brick.

Sunrise Solar Corporation has invented a brick that can be incorporated into regular construction materials. This isn’t just any old brick; it includes solar cells, an energy storage device, and a crystal lighting system. The solar cells collect heat from the sun and store it in the storage device, which illuminates at night. As an added bonus, the bricks can be configured to produce light in numerous colors.

The light source is a very bright LED that can operate for as long as 8-10 hours at once. These bricks are already in production. Not only can this be a solution to your lighting needs, but one for commercial interests as well, including airfields and safety lighting.
