The Speed of Light…On Water: Solar Boats

First, they figured out how to use solar power to travel by land: the solar car. Then they developed the solar plane to conquer the sky. Well, by air and by land is apparently not enough for eager solar inventors. As if to complete the trifecta of solar powered travel, the solar boat is now up and at ‘em. And it is not just a solar boat, it is a solar speedboat.

This new development by Dutch engineers is 33 feet long, has 150 sq. feet of solar cells on its surface, and reaches speeds of 30 knots. It does all this while producing much less pollution and noise than traditional speed boats. This boat, called the Czeers MK1, will certainly get you around the lake in style, that is, if you can afford the more than one million dollar price tag.

But don’t worry. You can also try a solar powered bicycle boat on for size. This fancy pedal boat runs off human energy, but if those humans get too tired to pedal, they can switch over to the solar electric motor housed in the boat to carry them home. The boat, still in its design phase, is built for four people…and the environment.

For all your dry land, fixed solar needs: residential solar power is the reliable, energy efficient way to go. Get free estimates from the best solar contractors nationwide for your custom installation.
