A Day in the (Solar) Life: Solar Goes Robotic, Rides the Bus, Charges an iPod, and Compacts Trash

Let’s say your day starts with a walk to the bus stop, followed by a ride to the gadget shop, all the while enjoying a custom-made soundtrack on your iPod. No longer would it sound strange to say that your day was largely solar-powered. New and continually spreading innovations, teasing at the heart of our urban landscape as well as our homes, are pushing solar energy beyond everyday talk and into everyday experience. A few new examples for a new day in the solar life:

Solar Robot

Not just a solar robot, but a solar robot kit. This 6-in-1 gadget allows you to get creative with solar power. Build a robotic dog, a boat, desktop plane, windmill, plane, and a car — all powered and operational thanks to solar energy.

Bus Stop Solar

Solar powered bus stops are not new to the country, but they are new to Dallas, Texas. There city transportation officials have decided to install 177 bus shelters that will be lit by solar panels on the shelter roof. The panels will also illuminate bus schedules and power a rider-signaling device while providing a safer waiting environment for riders.

Flexible Solar Chargers

Suntrica is revolutionizing the solar charger by combining flexibility with lightness and compactness. Their new line of chargers — the SolarStrap, SolarBadge, and SolarBadgePRO — is small, highly-efficiency, and equipped with batteries to store energy for later use. These latest chargers are compatible with iPod and iPod Nano, with chargers for iPhones soon to come.
