Cool New Solar Roof Tile Hits the Market

We already know about several manufacturers of solar shingles, including solar tiles. Still we always welcome innovation and another new product into the mix. To exemplify the point, we highlight Lumeta Solar’s S Tiles, designed to integrate into existing roofs even more than their BIPV competitors.

These slick, 28-watt solar tiles create an array that is about as flush to the roof as you can get. In place of three traditional tiles you get a silicon-based solar tile that Lumeta says will match the dimensions of conventional tiles by any major manufacturer.

The electrical wires are hidden on the bottom side of the tiles, where they are protected from weather and from view. Furthermore, Lumeta solar tiles piece together using standard quick connectors, which means only one or two roof penetrations per tile.

Lumeta, a California-based company, also makes Solar Flat Tiles, which integrate with concrete and clay flat tile roofs.
