DuPont Steps Up Panel Protection With Solar Sheets

We already know that DuPont has big expectations from the solar industry. And the chemical giant recently took one more step into the solar realm by announcing the commercialization of two new products that offer more protection to a solar panels’ most delicate segment: the solar cell.

DuPont Packaging and Industrial Polymers is releasing flexible and rigid “sheets” that they say will heighten protection for PV materials, increasing panel life expectancy even further and contributing to a reduced cost-per-watt on solar panels at the market level.

As little known as the fact may be, DuPont claims to have the widest portfolio of PV materials in existence, with nothing but growth planned for at least the next few years. As mixed an environmental history as DuPont has, it’s great to see them embracing renewable energy, or at least renewable dollar signs.

This latest move involves two products:

PV5300

These protective sheets for solar cells, according to the company, are five times tougher and 100 times stiffer than typically used PV “encapsulants.” They are ideal for all rigid panel installations, including solar roof tiles.

PV5200

Designed to jibe with the thin-film industry, these sheets are tough but flexible and enable faster, more efficient panel production and longer product life.
