5 Solar Mounting Systems
If you are one of the many consumers concerned about the worldwide energy shortage, you probably are seriously considering switching to alternative power within your own home. I’m sure you’ve already discovered how complex a process it can be to determine what system components are needed for your particular home. We aim to help make the process a little easier, and in this article provide a brief overview of solar mounting systems.
Ground Mount Systems. These are recommended for homeowners with little roof space, a large amount of shade, or who just don’t want the panels attached to the house for aesthetic reasons. A frame is built on the ground in the shape of a wedge designed to capture as much sunlight as possible.
BIPV (Building Integrated Photovoltaic). These tiles are small and fit almost unseen into the tiles of your roof. More expensive, but less of an eyesore.
Solar Patio Covers. Another location to install a solar system without having the panels extending from the roof.
Pole Mounts. A pole mount is another form of a ground mount, except that the panel is attached either to the top or the side of a pole. In some cases, the panel can be turned and adjusted throughout the year to capture as much sunlight as possible.
Roof Mounts. These are the most commonly used and affordable method of mounting solar panels. The panels are mounted with the support of a steel or aluminum frame.
It is important to have a clear understanding of the exact system you need for your home. A professional solar contractor should be experienced enough to correctly advise you, but it is in your best interest to be as educated on the matter as possible.
