If we can build cheaper, high-quality, modular homes offsite and simply “drive them home,” then why not do that for solar power? SunPods — “Sun Power on Demand” — say they’ve got the modular solar model down pat. They manufacture, prefabricate, and rigorously test their portable solar platforms in factory so that they are ready to “plug in” upon arrival at their destination. All it takes is an electrician to wire the SunPod into the existing power meter.

SunPod products have a wide range of applications, from a single 4.8 kW solar platform to large-scale solar farms. They have models that can be deployed along highways for plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles as well as those designed to be back-up systems or solar carports.

SunPods is one of only thirty tech companies (and the only solar company) to be selected for Silicon Valley 2009 expo Launch. Sponsored by the Silicon Valley Association of Start-Up Entrepreneurs (SVASE), the event provided SunPods with valuable exposure as they tout their Solar Smart Technology Systems before some of the nation’s most elite investors.

The portability and on-demand attributes of the SunPod model have undeniable potential. The company claims to cut installation time of even large solar systems from weeks or months to a matter of days, even a matter of hours for smaller systems. For all the homeowners out there, SunPods has both solar rooftop and ground-mount systems available. SunPods has also inked a strategic alliance and multi-year purchase agreement with SBM Solar, Inc.
