Phat Energy Is People-Friendly

phatenergy.JPGPhat Energy’s General Manager, Philippe Hartley, has a 25-year background of managing new technology companies in explosive market situations, so he seems well poised to lead this Southern California company specializing in solar energy products and services. He says, “Our objective is to make renewable energy options and recommendations available in ways that are sensible, practical, and understandable. Renewable power can change your world; we want to help you optimize it.”

The company’s website, www.phatenergy.com, has a How We Work section that is written in the personal style that characterizes the communication across the website. With this simple, clear manner of explaining things, even the most hesitant newbie to solar energy can begin to grasp concepts and processes that might have seemed complicated and mysterious before. Here’s an example of Phat Energy’s down-to-earth style:

“We approach solar system sizing on a financial basis. That’s why you’ll find a ‘Run The Numbers’ section on our Residential page. If you are considering solar electric power, we start by asking you the name of your utility. That allows us to pull down exactly how much you pay for electricity at different times of the year and for different tiers. Our objective is to find the system that will provide the customer the fastest pay-back on a cash flow basis, based very specifically on the customer’s current energy utility, rates, and consumption. From that we determine the customer’s appetite or desire for a larger system and document the impact of any size increase on the financial model.”

  • Photovoltaic solar systems
  • Solar hot water
  • Solar pool heating
  • Solar ventilation

A creative company program is the “Friend of Phat Program,” which the website’s homepage tempts visitors into learning about with this tidbit: “Make money talking about Phat Energy Solar Options!” The Friend of Phat program page tells readers, “If you are excited about solar power and its attributes, and find yourself frequently singing its praises, then Phat Energy would like to empower you. The Friend of Phat Program is open to all contractors, energy efficiency experts, financial advisors, environmental activists, and citizens. You must simply be naturally or professionally motivated to speak about the virtues, options, and cost of solar, or be frequently asked to provide answers on the subject. Be our partner in our quest to help make solar the most prevalent form of distributed energy generation in Southern California and beyond.”

Like the company’s overall style of openness and warmth, the Friend of Phat program’s description and income-generating opportunity makes readers feel the energy of the solar energy movement. Whether they want to pursue the option or not, it’s… well, it’s cool. And the company recently sponsored the largest eco-event in the Sundance Film Festival’s history, Green Odyssey. An article in the Solar Energy News says that “Phat Energy sees itself as more than a supplier of renewable energy products; it’s also a promoter of environmentally responsible lifestyles. Its sponsorship of the Sundance event is a way to get its message to a particularly influential crowd. ‘The entertainment community can and must energize our green economy,’ says Phat Energy General Manager Philippe Hartley.”

If this all sounds like solar with a southern California spin, that’s because it is – and what a great idea, really.
