Join the Green Roof Army: Sign Up for Green Roof Boot Camp

I’m not sure what I’ve been told, but Green Roof Boot Camp is mighty bold. If you’ve ever thought that you’d like to get involved in green building, but that it just takes too long go through the motions — classes, testing, paperwork — then perhaps your calling is green roofs. Green Roofs For Healthy Cities, a leading industry organization spreading the good word about green roofs, sponsors classes and workshops around the country, educating professionals about the ins, outs and benefits of green roofs. GRHC has decided to consolidate those classes into one intensive, four-day, roof-’til-you-drop boot camp.

Green Roof Boot Camp lasts four days, just enough time to pack in all four courses that GRHC normally offers non-consecutively. They are:

  • Green Roof Design 101: Introductory Course
  • Green Roof Infrastructure: Design & Installation 201
  • Green Roof Waterproofing and Drainage 301
  • Green Roof Plants and Growing Media 401

Upon completion of the boot camp (or all four courses separately), you can sign up to take the Green Roof accredited Professional (GRP) exam to seal the deal and prove to the world that you have survived boot camp and are ready to fight the vile brown, climate-changing roofs of the world with your state-of-the-art green roof knowledge and expert bravery.

There are two upcoming Green Roof Boot Camps in two major cities: Chicago from May 6th-9th and San Francisco from May 13th-16th. The GRP exam will be offered in five major cities in 2010. For more information on the camp, courses and registration, see GreenRoofs.org.

Green Roofs for Healthy Cities formed in 1999 as a small network of public and private organizations formed during a research study on the benefits of green roofs and the barriers to industry development. In 2004, Green Roofs for Healthy Cities became a registered industry organization and non-profit. It is now a rapidly growing organization offering a wealth of services and information on the environmental, economic and social benefits of green roofs.
