Saturday, June 19th: SolarDay 2010

The Summer Solstice is coming. It is the longest and often sunniest day of the year in the northern hemisphere. It could be the most lucrative day of the year for net-metered or feed-in-tariff-loving solar power systems. And it is definitely the best time of year to celebrate that unquenchable energy source in the sky. For all these reasons, and to spread the good, abundant and renewable word on clean energy consumption, eco-thusiasts around the country are bringing us SolarDay 2010.

This global celebration of solar energy will take place on Saturday, June 19th, the weekend before this year’s Summer Solstice. SolarDay began in 2009 in San Francisco and this year has spread to 40 U.S. cities, from San Diego to Ft. Lauderdale, and has no plans to stop until it has circumnavigated the globe. The day’s events vary by city and location. A few examples from around the country include tea and cookies while learning about solar energy, biodiesel bus tours of area solar installations, community open houses at solar homes, festivals, workshops, kids stuff, and on June 26th, the finish of the American Solar Challenge.

How ever each city or event organizer does it, SolarDay 2010 will be a day to learn about solar power and gain a firsthand look at how a variety of solar technologies work, not to mention meet like-minded community members and expand your local solar network.
