Solar Careers

solar technicianThe solar industry is a rapidly expanding field. Increased funding and awareness are leading to growing demand and new technological advancements. If you are searching for a new career, employment in solar definitely demands more consideration.

In a recent post, “Solar Industry Offers High-Quality, Green Collar Jobs,” we mentioned that the solar industry is expected to create nearly 40,000 new jobs and over $8 billion in investment dollars in 2009 alone. Here are some of those green collar possibilities:

  • Scientist. The key to solar becoming more affordable and attractive is the development of new technologies; further development of the science behind solar energy is how this will be achieved.
  • Researcher. Although this could include the field of science, there is also a need for people to research advantageous locations, different techniques, and demographical needs.
  • Manufacturing. All of the research and science has to be integrated into usable products, making manufacturing a very fulfilling solar career.
  • Sales. Solar systems are growing in popularity, but more attention still needs to be brought to the various products. Sales can be very rewarding; bringing consumers attention to the new products.
  • Installation. This is quite a complex process, and it is important to have a skilled professional as your installer.
  • Repair. Just as when the power goes out, consumers are quite desperate when their solar systems are in need of repair. This can be a lucrative business.

This is a relatively new field of career possibilities and one that hasn’t received a lot of promotion. Solar energy is a clean, sustainable form of energy, and should only progress as time goes on, providing more and more jobs in the future.
