Hit hard by the recession and still struggling with record unemployment rates, Las Vegas will soon be getting some much-needed help from a new solar panel manufacture facility slated to go up in the area.
The decision for Amonix, a city and solar panel manufacturer, to set up shop in North Las Vegas came after six months of negotiations headed by Mayor Shari Buck. It certainly helped that the city offered plenty of tax breaks and incentives, and had commercial real estate to spare.
The new facility will bring an estimated 278 jobs to the area, along with $118 million doled out in payroll and $12 million in tax money. It certainly won’t put the city back to where it started before the recession, but every little bit counts.
Amonix chose an old OfficeMax building for its operating grounds, and renovations will begin there within a few weeks. If all goes as planned, the facility will open at the end of the year.
