Arkansas Soalr Rebates and Incentives
Arkansas
is the home of former President Bill Clinton and lots of sunshine. What
is conspicuously lacking in Arkansas is any real effort to promote
renewable energy systems, including solar. Rather ironically, The
Natural State currently has zero solar energy incentives and apparently
nothing in the works at the legislative level. What Arkansas does offer is...
Net Metering
- Enacted
in 2001, and updated in 2007, Arkansas' net metering program is the
only incentive the state has. Although, without any further incentive,
only a small portion of the state's residents take advantage of the
program.
- Residential PV or solar thermal electric systems may be up to 25kW in size.
- Net
excess generation (NEG) is credited to the customer's next monthly bill
with leftovers credited to the utility at the end of the annual billing
cycle.
- All
the state's utilities are required to participate in the program, but
they do have the right to charge net metered customers additional fees
in certain situations.
- For more information, see the Arkansas Economic Development Commission.
This
is certainly one of the shortest lists of state incentives in
existence. Unfortunately it is fairly run-of -the-mill in the South.
Let's hope that Arkansas legislators get down to energy business soon
and set the bar in America's hot and sunny South.
